Zach is pretty active at GCSU...he is playing intramural football and made it into the Percussion Ensemble (only freshman!). He loves college life and he is working hard. It appears he may be changing his major from education to business - that may change again. I suggested he consider being "undecided" for as long as he can - it is more cost effective! Here is a note Zach sent to me, describing his feelings about his achievements thus far:
This year was an amazing year for me. There was so much that has happened both good and bad, however, they were mostly good.
Maybe the biggest event that happened to me this year was graduating high school and moving into college. It was a great success for me to get accepted into every school I applied to, and going to GC&SU was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am happy to be here and making new friends and building such stronger relationships with my old friends from high school and the ones who go here. But college was not as easy as I thought it would be. I miss my home so much. It was not until I completely moved into my apartment when I realized how much I am going to miss and how much I love. My family means so much to me, and I love all of them to death.
My final year in the marching band was a year to remember. I proved myself to my peers and my instructors by getting a definite spot in the drum line and getting ranked 15 out of 42. (Although it should have been 2 spots higher.) Receiving a plaque for completing all four years was a huge milestone in this experience. It shows that dedication does require hard work, but in the end, it is all worth it.
My entire family helped me throughout this entire year. Even though they say it was me who did all of this work, they helped me with it all. Encouragement, support, and love. All of the accomplishments with school and social life, they have been there every step of the way, and I can not express to them how much I appreciate it.
I am going to miss this year, however I know that this new year is going to be even better than this past one.
Look out for a 3.6 or higher GPA, a great experience in the BSP flag football team and the GC&SU percussion ensemble, and some new friends.
There will be some returning faces from this past year like my old friends and my academic accomplishments.
